Pictures from Jordan, November 1999

These pictures were taken during a study trip to Jordan. We started our trip in Amman, visited several of the remains of the Roman cities in Jordan, swam in the Dead Sea. Then we continued to the southern deserts, called Wadi Rum. On the final days of the trip we enjoyed the warm November waters of the Red Sea and even saw some of the coral-banks.

The picture is taken in Jordan which is separated by the river Jordan (the valley in the foreground) from Israel and Syria. Ma'in Hot Springs near Madabas. Please note that muslim women are (of course) not allowed to wear bikinis and therefore enjoy their bath fully dressed. I surely remember my fall on the slippery stairs and the following visit in the hospital in Madabas, where the doctor did an excellent job sewing my cut with three stitches.
