I have visited Russia in March 2000, July 2000, March 2001 and November 2002 and had the chance to see Moscow, St. Petersburg, Sergiew Possad (see picture on the left), Suzdal and a few smaller towns in the vicinity of Moscow.

Moscow

As a part of a visit to Moscow you should also visit some of the numerous museums. One of the most famous that you can also visit on the internet is the Tretyakovskaya Gallery. The server is a little bit slow and the site is wholly in Russian language. Therefore you should at least be able to read cyrillic letters. My favorite picture in this museum is "Girl with Peaches", painted by Valentin Serov.   Girl with Peaches / V. Serov Girl with Peaches,

St. Petersburg

Of course I was not allowed to take pictures in the famous Ermitage. However there is a virtual tour of the Ermitage on its website. It needs a little patience until the videos are downloaded but the view of the splendid rooms is absolutely worth the wait.

My favorite rooms are the Pavilion Hall and the Main Staircase.

Also worth a virtual visit, but not as impressive as the Ermitage, is the Russian Museum. In reality a visit to the Russian Museum is also an absolute must if you visit St. Petersburg.
The museum displays several pictures of the famous Russian painter Aivazovsky, who painted almost exclusively the sea.
